The first Blazin’ With Love 5K Run/Walk and Way North Sports Cornhole Tournament sponsored by communications provider PowerNet Global (News - Alert) recently took place and raked nearly $21,000 for charity.

Besides sponsoring the event, PowerNet Global provided mini first-aid kits and lip balm for participant goodie bags. Other special occurances during event included an appearance by Brian Douglas of Q102 as the master of ceremonies, as well as a silent auction that raised more than $4,200 for a great cause.

Officials with company revealed in a press release that the funds would be donated to the Tri-State Southern Ohio chapter of Leukemia and Lymphoma Society."A representative of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Tri-State Southern Ohio Chapter told me that even though this is the first time that this event was held, it ended up being the highest grossing race in all of southwest Ohio so far this year,” said Barb Williams, senior financial analyst for PowerNet Global, in a statement.

“I am very proud to be working for a company that walks the walk as well as talks the talk when it comes to supporting its local community," Williams added.

“We are overwhelmed by the support we received and are especially thankful to PowerNet Global for believing in us and providing the sponsorship that allowed this event to really take off,” Christine Lothrop, race co-director commented. “We never dreamed we would raise this amount, and we are so thrilled to be helping the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society continue life-saving research and provide support to the families,” said Lothrop who is the parent of one of the five children honored by the event.
