Colorado State Police Launch Non-Emergency COVID-19 Call Center
It’s been a year since the world became aware of the menace of COVID-19, and we’ve learned a lot in this time. Organizations of all types are discovering that communications have been the cornerstone of their survival, whether it’s between coworkers, managers and employees, or customer support representatives and customers.
COVID-19 has very abruptly shown organizations where the cracks are in their communications infrastructure. Municipal government organizations, for example, have seen enormous rises in the amount of phone traffic they’re receiving, and many were caught unawares with old, sluggish and inflexible call center systems.
In Colorado, the State Police noted that phone calls have been increasing as the state’s rates of COVID-19 have risen dramatically in recent weeks. In response to escalating need, the CSP (News - Alert) last week launched a COVID-19 call center to help inform the public about information and assistance related to the pandemic, according to local news source The Gazette. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has reported that 1 in 49 people in Colorado are currently infected with COVID-19.
“The call center is open to the public, in addition to public safety dispatch centers, local emergency operations centers and members of business sectors,” according to The Gazette’s Hannah Metzger. “It is not a 911 center and is not intended to assist with emergencies.”
The goal is to take pressure off emergency call center services and provide Coloradoans with a place to get information of a non-emergency nature, such as COVID-19 testing and quarantine procedures. Earlier this month, in response to rising COVID-19 infection rates, Colorado changed its COVID-19 response dial, adding a dozen counties into its newly-created Level Red status. This has led to uncertainty among Coloradans unsure about what restrictions they’re required to follow.
The new call center will be open from Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. It can be reached at 833-598-5553.
