Indio, California Chamber of Commerce Expands Call Center to Address COVID-19 Concerns
While it may not seem like a shortage of information relating to the global COVID-19 pandemic, many Americans are feeling anxious, frustrated and confused. Information is aplenty, but it’s hard to know if the information is accurate, reliable and up-to-date. Advice given by legitimate organizations even a week ago may not be relevant now. To help citizens, workers and parents navigate the plethora of information, some local governments across the country are stepping in to repurpose municipal call centers with greater resources to become information hubs related to the virus and the economic problems it has caused.
In Indio, California, the local Chamber of Commerce recently extended its operational scope to assist local residents and businesses with general questions during the current state of emergency. The bilingual English and Spanish-language call center, which began its expanded operation on Monday, March 30th, ramped up its ability to direct callersto the agencies and community support services they require based on individual need. This might include assistance for small business owners, the recently unemployed, and others who need guidance locating the appropriate services or agencies. The goal is to direct people across the Coachella Valley toward the appropriate resources during a time of great need, according to local news source News Channel 3.
“Agencies are doing their best to provide links and services online, but when people are trying to find important answers for their families or their businesses, they want to know they’re talking to the right person,” said Joshua Bonner, President and CEO of the Greater Coachella Valley Chamber of Commerce, which operates the Indio Visitor’s Center.
"The Indio Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center answers questions from visitors and seasonal guests on a regular basis. This is a natural extension of those services for us. We may not be able to answer every question, but we will do our best to direct our residents to the services and support they need during this time of crises."
The call center is available to answer resident calls Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at (760) 347-0676. Residents can also reach them by email at: [email protected]
