Plantronics Marks 50th Anniversary on NYSE

By David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Plantronics (News - Alert) officials recently noted the company’s 50th anniversary on the New York Stock Exchange. Company executives took the opportunity to outline their vision and strategy for the future, and unveil some new products.

A particular focus of the web event, which included customers, analysts and partners, was outlining “the changing communication needs of business professionals and their evolving work environments,” according to company officials, who see particular opportunity in “providing freedom for business professionals” whose offices and cubicles are being replaced with flexible work environments.

Ken Kannappan (News - Alert), president and chief executive officer, Plantronics, said business communications providers need to deal with “an increasingly dispersed workforce.”

Kannappan unveiled several new products, including Savi 740, Plantronics’ first headset that connects to a deskphone, mobile phone and computer. Users “can wear this headset over the head with a headband, using the ear loop, or behind the head with a neckband which provides webcam friendly options for video conference calls.”

Last week TMC’s (News - Alert) Ed Silverstein reported that Plantronics stock reached a 52-week high during trading Tuesday when it hit $38.75, according to media reports. The earlier 52-week high was $38.55:

“TheStreet reported that the company’s shares increased 0.9 percent year-to-date as of the close of the previous trading day. Earlier this month, Plantronics said its fourth quarter 2011 fiscal year net revenues were $173.1 million, a 7 percent increase compared with net revenues of $162.3 million during the fourth quarter of the 2010 fiscal year.”

Silverstein also reported that Plantronics’ Savor M1100 Bluetooth Earpiece was chosen as a finalist in the telecommunications category for TechAmerica Foundation's American Technology (News - Alert) Awards, called “The Termans.”

The Termans are national awards that recognize all technology products and services across the technology industry. The winners will be recognized on June 15 at the TechAmerica Foundation's Ninth Technology and Government Dinner in Washington, D.C.
