Artificial intelligence is changing business – and life – as we know it. With AI, businesses more effectively leverage the high volume of data that’s available to them. And that includes customer data.

This opportunity is why Avaya (News - Alert) first created its A.I. Connect ecosystem. And it’s why the company had made an investment in one of the ecosystem’s founding members. That company is Cogito.

Avaya earlier this month disclosed that it made an investment in Cogito. It declined to specify the dollar amount. But Avaya did say its investment was part of Cogito’s Series C round of financing, which aims to accelerate Cogito’s go-to-market, expand its research and development efforts, and grow its team.

AI-driven sentiment analysis company Cogito in July announced it had raised $37 million in C round. At the time Cogito noted the round was led by Goldman Sachs Growth Equity with participation from existing investors OpenView and Salesforce Ventures.

Avaya and Cogito did not disclose specifically how the Avaya funding fits into the arrangement announced in July. Avaya’s messaging around the Cogito investment in an early October press release focuses on how the move will expand on its partnership with Cogito.

“Cogito has been a valued member of our open and agile A.I.Connect ecosystem, and making this strategic investment in the company, combined with deepening our joint development on AI, will help transform the customer experience, bringing advanced human communication and connection to a much broader market,” said Laurent Philonenko, Avaya senior vice president of innovation. “Avaya continues to invest in new solutions and partners to provide increased value to customers through transformative innovation.”

Jon Alperin of Avaya will be among the speakers at The Future of Work Expo, Jan. 30 through Feb. 1 in Fort Lauderdale. The Future of Work Expo is one of a trio of AI- and ML-based events under The New Intelligence banner.
