Sennheiser Seeking Partner for Consumer Business

When the workforce went home, the experience changed for the user. One of the greatest challenges for organizations large and small was supporting this shift with communications tools capable of sustaining productivity. From the network core, to headset in your home office, every component matters.

In a company blog post today, Sennheiser announced intentions to shop its consumer audio business for a partner to drive results there while the UC endpoint provider can put more resources toward its Neumann, Business Communications and Pro Audio Divisions.

“All business units are to emerge strengthened from the planned repositioning. With a strong partner at our side to invest in our Consumer business, we will be even better equipped to play to our strengths – and to continue to bring the benefit of these strengths to our customers,” says Daniel Sennheiser.

To speculate possible partners is a slippery slope. I wouldn’t be shocked to see a big name get involved, which one, only time will tell. The global Earphones and Headphone market is pegged for a CAGR of 20.3% through 2027, with the lead pack including Sennheiser, Apple, Bose and Skullcandy – but coverage from  handelsblatt highlights a lackluster non-wireless market.

This matters because while the consumer business unit is its largest, stumbling to attack the wireless market left the audio endpoint provider vulnerable.  I wouldn’t call this a retreat, but repositioning is wise now, as keeping focus on business solutions is prudent – especially in a work from home world.
