I don’t have a house phone so the concept of answering my desk phone took some getting used to. I have been a strict mobile device user for about 10 years now so I get the idea of “kill the desk phone.” But, according to an IDC survey, 57 percent of the respondents believe desk phone usage will only increase; only 15 percent feel it will decrease.

Avaya is showcasing it new line of desktop phones, offering a handful of choices with the 1600 Series IP Deskphones. The Avaya Vantage will see an upgrade along with the CU-360, a conferencing device, a new lineup of phones has been presented: the Essential Experience J139, J169, and J179. These phones will be available in Q2 2018.

The Android-based CU-360 is designed for smaller arenas aiming for an all-in-one video conferencing solution. Easily connectable to the cloud, it can be used wirelessly on Avaya’s Equinox forum, linking multiple services together in one. Additionally, the Vantage line features a touchscreen in control of any connected system; cordless headset; and a bevy of option for channel partners all on one solo device.

“It’s no longer just a phone. It gives you complete access to everything the cloud has to offer. It’s part of our cloud strategy,” Steve Brock, Avaya’s director of solutions, told CDN.

As for the three J-series phones, admittedly they are not revolutionizing desk phones but Avaya said it wanted to deliver a new business VoIP product to users still in this particular market. Michael Kuch noted that other companies aim to bring out new versions of products every 18-20 months; it has been years for Avaya.

“Even though we’ve had a troublesome 2017, we went out there and decided we need to do this,” says Kuch.
