Business VoIP and the Employee Bonus - What's the Connection?

Communication within the workplace can be an interesting dance between efficiency, professionalism and getting to the point. It’s not just about the technology in place to make it happen; it’s also a focus on the message communicated. When it comes to the employee bonus, the ultimate communicated message means more than the bonus any day.

A recent blog posted by business VoIP solutions provider, Nextiva, explored the employee bonus concept. The blog actually asked the question: Should the employees be giving out the bonuses? Many complain when the business owner or manager hands out the bonuses, claiming they are either too subjective or too objective. It’s not an easy task to complete and keep everyone happy at the same time.

A startup known as bonus.ly is designed to help the business owner better manage the employee bonus process by allowing employees to make these key decisions. The company promotes its tool as encouraging meaningful praise and recognition through peer bonuses and rewards given according to the company’s values. The service offered by bonus.ly helps companies implement a peer bonus system.

Once management decides on a budget, employees are then educated on what peer bonuses should be awarded. It’s important that employees take the process seriously and not simply give money to someone they like or want a favor from. Each employee should get a monthly allowance for granting the peer bonus, which should be given according to preset increments. Monthly allowances should not be allowed to roll over – they either give it away or it goes away.

How does bonus.ly help? The company’s software is designed to monitor giving data and then provide information on the top performers in the company. The giving of peers is critical to monitor in the beginning, especially when the popularity contest or barter system needs to be thwarted. By encouraging employees to treat this as a valuable tool that improves performance – and by default bonuses – over the long-term, successful is guaranteed.

So what does this employee bonus concept have to do with business VoIP? It all ties together and contributes to the optimal communication experience. Employees want to easily connect when collaborating with their peers. At the same time, they want to provide the customer with the quality engagement experience. Business VoIP helps them to achieve both of these goals.

At the end of the day, employees tend to want to do well at their jobs. This means they need the tools to succeed according to predetermined expectations. With business VoIP at the ready, they have access to the features necessary to streamline their communication efforts and stay focused on the task at hand. In the end, they’re more productive and better deserving of the coveted bonus.
