Pactolus: SIP-based Open Source Solutions Lead the Way for Customized VoIP Services

By Mae Kowalke, TMCnet Senior Editor

Developing large-scale, customized VoIP services is a key way for enterprises, service providers and systems integrators to improve their bottom lines. That’s the message Pactolus, a company that specializes in solutions for building next-generation networks, wanted to make sure attendees at the recent INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference & EXPO in L.A. took home with them.
The company’s Vice President of Marketing and Product Management, Ken Osowski, shared his insights (see below) about attending ITEXPO (News - Alert) as an exhibitor and speaker, along with his perspective on the market for open source, SIP-based telephony and communications solutions.
Among other comments, Osowski said that he sees more and more enterprises and service providers coming to value the creation of scalable services, and increasingly are turning to Pactolus’ platform and community to accomplish just that.
TMCnet: If you had to give one reason why it was important for Pactolus to attend ITEXPO this year, what would it be?
No doubt, the high quality of information and interaction that service providers and enterprises get at ITEXPO attracts them to this important forum, and so naturally makes it an ideal forum for Pactolus as well

TMCnet: What was the central message Pactolus wanted to convey to ITEXPO attendees, and to whom was this message targeted?
Osowski:  Large scale, highly customized VoIP services can significantly improve the bottom line for service providers, enterprises and the integrators serving them, whether uniquely-developed with the RapidFLEX Service Creation Environment and Service Delivery Platform, developed through the award-winning Developer Community’s open source framework/open access service creation environment (SCE) , or easily customized from our SIPware Turnkey services.
TMCnet: Can you share one or two particularly noteworthy interactions you had during ITEXPO?
The breakout session, “Service Creation Considerations - Open Source/Open Access SIP Technologies For Creating Optimized, Highly-Scaled Services,”was attended by service provider market development and enterprise IT professionals who are very interested in seeing next generation service development proceed, and several of these folks commented on both the breadth of services and ease of development that are now feasible.

TMCnet: What surprises, if any, did Pactolus encounter at ITEXPO in terms of customer reactions or comments to products/service and/or session topics?
While not surprising per se, we were impressed with the very strong level of interest in the Developer Community’s open source framework/open access service creation environment (SCE). More and more enterprises and service providers are seeing the value in creating unique and highly usable, scalable services, and are impressed with just how easily competitors have done so using

TMCnet: Based on interactions with customers, partners, and competitors at ITEXPO, how would you summarize the current market for broadband telephony?
It's growing as carriers, service providers and enterprises look to leverage IP's better economics, flexibility and innovation potential.

TMCnet: How would you summarize what Pactolus gained by attending ITEXPO?
Strong relationships with customers, prospects and industry experts, and the opportunity to share the true value of SIPdev as an easy to use platform for creating new generations of highly-scaled services whose innovation and feature richness are limited only by the developer's imagination.

INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference & EXPO West 2008 — the biggest and most comprehensive IP communications event of the year — concluded September 18th in Los Angeles, California. Thousands of attendees flocked to the event for three valuable days of exhibits, conferences and networking opportunities. Mark your calendar now for ITEXPO East 2009, February 2-4, 2009, in sunny Miami, Florida.
