FeatureTel, a company offering hosted VoIP business telephone service over private networks, has launched an employee engagement philanthropy program benefiting DonorsChoose.org, a non-profit organization that allows donors to support specific school classroom projects.
Officials with FeatureTel (News - Alert) said that the company’s employees take a turn each month to select a local school classroom project of their choice to be funded by the company.
In August, FeatureTel Account Manager Susan Bowser selected the Moving Math Mathematicians project for a classroom at Adams Elementary School in Cary, N.C.
“I selected the project because math was my favorite subject, and it drove me toward computer science and technology,” Bowser said, “and I’ve been in that field since I graduated college. I still love everything about math.”
Given FeatureTel’s focus on supporting educational efforts, DonorsChoose.org seemed a good match to founder and CEO Paul Levering (News - Alert).
“We were looking for a way to involve our employees in our philanthropy. Engaging them in the selection of DonorsChoose projects was a perfect fit. We also liked the idea of supporting a range of students and projects, and keeping it local at the same time”, said Levering.
“We know when it comes to serving our customers, the small things we do can have a big impact,” he added.
Levering said that it’s not unlike what the team at DonorsChoose.org does -- funding one project at a time can make a big difference to a classroom of kids and their learning potential.
DonorsChoose.org allows public school teachers from across America to post their project funding requests on the site.
Donors search for projects to fund by specific state, city, county, district and school. Requests range from pencils for a poetry writing unit, to violins for a school recital, to microscope slides for a biology class and more.
