PortaOne's SoftSwitch VoIP Platform Aids Steady Growth for Pure IP

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributor

PortaOne, a global developer and vendor of carrier-grade software used by modern telecommunication service providers, has been cited by VoIP telecommunications provider Pure IP as having been instrumental in its success at servicing its retail and wholesale business customers. Even when crisis situations sidelined many other firms, such as when the Eyjafjallajokull volcano erupted in spring of this year, Pure IP was still able to keep its customers in business.

Pure IP is one of today's cutting-edge VoIP telecommunications providers. It is able to outmaneuver its larger competition by leveraging its next-generation solutions to service its business customers worldwide. Its telehouse facilities in London, Auckland and Johannesburg enable it to provide 24/7 support and service to the 17 countries its customers hail from through its system, which extends from Sydney to New York.
Gary Forrest, Pure IP managing director, said that while Cisco and Quintum (News - Alert) power their networks as a whole to ensure the quality of service provisioning and maximum redundancy, PortaOne's PortaSwitch VoIP services platform underpins Pure IP's customer-management, billing and softswitching functions.
Forrest added that both resellers and corporate customers have greatly benefited from PortaSwitch's ability to run diverse services even during disaster recovery situations such as the volcanic eruption and the snowstorms that occurred in 2010. PortaSwitch, he said, allows Pure IP to build its network on the premise of redundancy at multiple points.
Forrest said that other billing and call management platforms such as Digitalk had been considered, but PortaOne (News - Alert) and PortaSwitch offered a totally different level of flexibility; a direct, attentive and honest sales process; and excellent technical support, especially when considering new services and more complex issues.
Since adopting PortaSwitch nearly two years previously, Pure IP's business has only grown every month. Forrest attributes this success to the strong feature set and stability of PortaSwitch. Pure IP, he said, takes pride in differentiating services via its stability, aftercare support, and implementation. PortaSwitch's solution is feature-rich and serves customers well anywhere Pure IP chooses to compete.
Forrest explained further than PortaSwitch allowed Pure IP to offer its customers a full suite of hosted VoIP services. These services include conference bridges, international numbering, SIP trunking and MPLS connectivity. He concluded that Pure IP has been very impressed with both the flexibility of PortaSwitch and its scalability, most especially considering new services such as conferencing and callback.
PortaSwitch is eminently capable of managing the complete converged VoIP billing functions and call control of diversified digital services companies. It enables wholesale VoIP carriers and ITSPs to deliver business models flexibly and quickly. PortaSwitch comprises a class 4 and 5 SIP softswitch; a real-time billing system; and applications servers delivering converged SIP call control, conferencing, IP Centrex and hosted IP PBX (News - Alert), callback management, IVRs, Void provisioning and billing, and more.
PortaOne was in news last week for announcing that it is participating in CommunicAsia (News - Alert) after D.C. Show.
