Cygnus Adds Mobile Ticketing Capabilities With ShopText Partnership

Electronic commerce and ticketing outfit Cygnus eTransactions Group inked a deal with ShopText (News - Alert) to provide a comprehensive mobile ticketing system for entertainment, sports and recreation venues.

ShopText, a provider of text-based mobile commerce and marketing solutions, will help Cygnus enable customers to purchase tickets and merchandise using any text-enabled mobile phone simply by sending the ticket or product keyword via text message.

The system works across all major wireless carriers and there is no software to download, according to the companies.

"Consumers have rapidly incorporated text messaging into their everyday lives, from managing their bank accounts to casting votes for America's next top performing artist, and purchasing tickets by text message will soon be just as popular," said Steve Brown, president and chief executive office of Cygnus.

 The service will be available for many ticketing applications including general admission venues such as theme parks and attractions as well as reserved seating at concerts and sporting events. Tickets can be delivered by mail, picked up at will call, printed at home or at a Cygnus kiosk. Merchandise can be shipped or picked up at the venue.

The companies have completed integration of their technology platforms and are concluding the final stages of product development. The new system will debut at the IAAPA Attractions Expo 2007, the largest tradeshow for theme parks and attractions, taking place in Orlando, Florida, November 13-16.

"In today's world, consumers are far more likely to carry their mobile phone than their wallets. With the addition of ShopText to Cygnus' ticketing system, any venue can now offer a full range of mobile enabled offerings including ticketing, merchandise sales and on-site promotions," said Steve Roberts, chief executive officer of ShopText.
