Offering what it calls the industry's first pre-integrated, portable ATCA platform, RadiSys has introduced the Promentum C2 Server. The C2 Server leverages LCR Electronics' (News - Alert) ruggedized ATCA chassis and Astute Networks' Edge Storage Blades.

 

The C2 Server is designed to cater to the needs for performance, weight and ruggedization requirements of mobile command and control customers. It also provides customers with integrated computing, switching and storage in one easy-to-manage platform that scales to meet most environmental and performance challenges presented to the Mil/Aero market. It can also be quickly deployed and serviced in the field.

 

The C2 Server also offers a 33 percent weight reduction over equivalent rack mount servers systems because ATCA is a bladed architecture that shares a common enclosure, fan and power supply resulting in significant weight savings. A typical system will weigh 97 pounds, light enough for two people to lift.

When developing the C2 Server, RadiSys also leveraged its real-world Mil/Aero experience. RadiSys has deployed high-reliability solutions in several military applications including command and control stations, secure networking, airborne manned, unmanned vehicles/robots and portable and in-vehicle computers. Allowing the use of multiple operating systems for consolidation of application and the use of VSphere, the computing modules are certified with VMware ESXi, RadiSys has announced.

 

Recently, RadiSys announced that its Promentum ATCA 4.0 platform received the NGN 2010 Leadership Award from Technology Marketing Corporation's "TMC's (News - Alert)" NGN Magazine. According to a press release, RadiSys was recognized in the Network Technology category for its ATCA 4.0 platform. This platform was credited for redefining service providers' capacity and for delivering services, applications and content to the growing constituencies.
