RadiSys Acquires Pactolus Communications Software Company

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

RadiSys Corporation, a global provider of application-ready software and hardware platforms, has announced the acquisition of the privately-held Pactolus Communications (News - Alert) Software Company.

A provider in the development and delivery of next-generation IP communication solutions for converged TDM/IP and SIP-enabled VoIP networks, Pactolus offers customizable turnkey SIPware services that include large operator-assisted event and reservationless audio conferencing.

SIPware services also include prepaid and post-paid long distance services, residential and business Class 5 VoIP and voice messaging. The company’s software solutions are installed in more than 45 telecommunication service provider customers worldwide including major Tier 1 and Tier 2 carriers.

'We are pleased to announce the acquisition of Pactolus,' said Scott Grout, RadiSys (News - Alert) president and CEO, in a statement. 'RadiSys and Pactolus have been partnering for years in the delivery of media server technology and applications. The addition of Pactolus strengthens our portfolio of telecommunication solutions for service providers and TEMs. The Pactolus team has extensive domain expertise in developing both legacy TDM enhanced services and next generation IP-based communication applications and platforms. We look forward to having them as part of the RadiSys team.”

RadiSys has built a strong performance record in the application-ready software and hardware platforms for use in the communications, multi-media, Mil/Aero and medical markets. The company’s technologies help equipment manufacturers and network operators bring the most advanced products and services to market faster and more economically.

With this latest acquisition and extension of the RadiSys portfolio, the company will be much better positioned to cater to current and prospective customers. Conferencing is a rapidly growing area of the communications industry and the ability to deliver this value to customers will expand the company’s reach in the global marketplace.

In other RadiSys news, the company announced in February that it will demonstrate its latest solutions for next-generation networks at Mobile World Congress, the world’s largest mobile industry exhibition scheduled to be held from February 15-18, in Barcelona, Spain.

In March, the company earned top media server vendor ranking for the sixth consecutive year by market research firm, Infonetics Research (News - Alert). In its study, Infonetics reported that RadiSys’ family of Convedia media servers captured 60 percent of the total market for fourth quarter 2009 and 57 percent overall for calendar year 2009, an eight and 10 percent gain respectively from 2008.
