Camiant Multimedia Policy Engine Available on RadiSys ATCA Platform

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor

Camiant Inc., a provider of policy control technology, announced the availability of its Multimedia Policy Engine on the RadiSys Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture (ATCA) platform for next-generation mobile providers.

The Camiant (News - Alert) MPE ATCA solution is capable of delivering policy management into complex telecommunication environments with optimized carrier-grade hardware platform features. Additionally, the Camiant MOE ATCA-ready platform leverages the capabilities of the RadiSys Promentum 6000 chassis and its new compute blade, the Promentum 4500.

Promentum uses Intel’s (News - Alert) Nehalem architecture for CPU and memory enhancements and 10-Gigabit Ethernet connectivity. This availability will help Camiant to take mobile networks towards new technologies like LTE (News - Alert) and others, said company sources.

The company also supports the new 3GPP releases, as compliance with such industry standards is a must. 3GPP Release 8 includes requirements for LTE networks and Release 9 defines volume-tracking and layer 7 capabilities. These are critical next steps in preparing carrier networks to dynamically control high value, broadband services. The Release 9 standard lets operators apply policy based usage controls without integrating a charging system into the solution.

Camiant sources added that it has completed interoperability testing for the MPE with other vendors using multiple 3GPP interfaces like Gx for policy enforcement points including Packet Data Gateways, Gateway (News - Alert) GPRS Support Nodes, Deep Packet Inspection systems and multi-layer proxies besides others. Camiant’s MPE has been deployed as a European Union roaming control solution.

“As LTE approaches wide-scale deployment in mobile networks, Camiant is ready to apply our extensive knowledge and leading edge technology to the industry’s most progressive mobile operators,” said Mark DelSesto, vice president of product management. “Providers are readying themselves to realize the full benefits of broadband communications, and we’re thoroughly prepared to help them achieve those benefits as quickly as possible.”

Camiant’s policy control solution is compliant with 3GPP’s Release 8 and Release 9 Policy and Charging Rules Function or PCRF specifications. This allows broadband service providers to dynamically manage their networks and deliver optimized broadband data services, IP-based communication services and rich media content.
