Kaminario's Updated Storage Appliance Provides Optimized Application Performance Management

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

Kaminario, a provider of high-performance SSD storage solutions, announced new storage options for its K2 DRAM storage appliance to meet the scalability requirements of different types of companies. This, in turn, will alleviate application performance issues that often arise due to I/0 bottlenecks.

With Kaminario’s modular Scale-out Performance Architecture (SPEAR), companies can scale K2 DRAM according to performance and/or capacity requirements.

The solution is offered at an entry-level price of $50,000. The entry-level Kaminario K2 system can be configured with 500 GB of storage and deliver 150,000 IOPS with 1.6 GB/s throughput. The Kaminario K2 can scale up to 12 TB and deliver 1.5 million IOPS with 16 GB/s throughput.

Kaminario’s K2 also ensures 2 to 25 times greater performance required for the demanding I/O-intensive applications such as OLTP and databases including Oracle (News - Alert), Microsoft SQL Server, or Sybase, according to company officials.

The Kaminario K2’s overall price per I/O per second (IOPS) and low deployment and management overhead provide an immediate return to companies of all sizes. The company is offering this enterprise-grade, high-availability features at an SMB price, according to company officials.

“The market response to Kaminario’s K2 in its first months of availability has been very strong,” said Dani Golan, CEO of Kaminario, in a statement. “Enterprises struggling with application performance issues due to I/O bottlenecks are discovering they can realize a faster ROI and lower TCO by deploying a high-performance storage appliance rather than opting for expensive system upgrades or tuning.”

Launched last year, Kaminario K2 is the only solid-state device with true N+1 high availability, according to company officials. It also features mirrored storage with automatic data recovery, redundant Fibre Channel connectivity and a UPS, to reduce the risk of losing data access.

Kaminario K2 has already been deployed at different types of companies ranging from financial services firms to Web data mining companies. Earlier this year, Kaminario announced Digital Trowel, a leading Web mining vendor, selected Kaminario's K2 to cut in half the run time of its Web mining process and speed data delivery to its customers.
