MetaSwitch Deals Full House at MetaSwitch Forum 2009 in Las Vegas

By Tim Gray, TMCnet Web Editor

After wrapping up its record-setting sixth annual MetaSwitch Forum 2009 in Las Vegas -  an event created  for both customers and partners – the company is continuing to move forward while reflecting on its recent successes.

According to the carrier IP communications solutions player, the “No Limits" forum earlier this month pulled in record numbers with more than 600 attendees filling 30 educational sessions, including "Getting All Mashed Up in Vegas", "Dealin' with the Feds" and "The Final Cut: Behind the Scenes of a Major Switch Migration", and crowded the expo floor that featured 35 partner exhibits, according to John Lazar, CEO for MetaSwitch (News - Alert).

"The record attendance at the Forum this year is clear proof that the MetaSwitch Community is strong, growing and positive about the future. This sense of a community of innovators, meeting in a relaxed, educational setting, truly is the hallmark of the MetaSwitch Forum," said Lazar.

Event sponsors included Aastra Telecom (News - Alert), Acme Packet, ADTRAN, Calix, Cisco, Cordell, NeuStar, Occam Networks, Polycom and Varaha Systems.

And while the roster of attendees read like a veritable “Who’s Who” list – keynote speakers included Kevin DeNuccio, vice chairman of Redback Networks, an Ericsson company; and Dennis Huber, chief technology officer at Embarq (News - Alert) – MetaSwitch also included thought provokers outside the industry box by selecting Anthony Zuiker, creator and executive producer of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation as a keynote speaker.

"We focused hard this year on shaping every session to be as valuable as possible, so that attendees leave with practical ideas that can immediately impact their businesses, as well as insights that will help them shape their long-term business strategies," said Lazar.

In addition to a virtual avalanche of news that poured from the popular event, as TMCnet reported, MetaSwitch announced a slew of its own new features and products for its product line-up in an effort to extend its commitment to providing innovative telecommunications services to its customers at the event that had an avalanche of news.

Topping the news from Vegas was the announcement that MetaSwitch has formed a collaborative online social business networking group focused on creating third party software-based applications for its product line. The newly minted MetaSwitch Innovators Community is expected to foster an open exchange of ideas among the Alameda, California-based company’s customers and partners, as well as third party developers, according to John Lazar, CEO for MetaSwitch.

"By creating the MetaSwitch Innovators Community, we are building a different kind of online forum focused on innovation, collaboration and interaction among our customers and partners, rather than building a mere marketplace for third party developers who are not part of that community," said Lazar.

In all, MetaSwitch unveiled 100 enhancements MetaSwitch as part of its Version 7.0 release designed to enable service providers to quickly and effectively deploy new and advanced services and to generate additional revenue as well as improve communications for their subscribers.

Also at the event, the MetaSwitch User Group Board held its annual meeting and elected Bill Sandiford, chief technology officer and co-founder of Telnet Communications, and Ken Sumrall, network operations manager for MegaGate Broadband, as new members.

In addition, the User Group announced the election of John Springer, manager of information technology at Inland Telephone, as Board Chairman and Srikanth Gomattam, manager of product and VoIP engineering at One Communications (News - Alert), as vice chairman.

"I believe that MetaSwitch will continue to excel because it gives and receives constructive feedback from the User Group in order to strengthen its relationships with customers," said Springer.
