Alaska Communications Utilizing Advanced Carrier Services Provider Metaswitch for Unified Messaging

By Jamie Epstein, TMCnet Web Editor

Metaswitch Networks, a supplier of next generation infrastructure and advanced carrier services to network operators, has just revealed that Alaska Communications (News - Alert) has deployed MetaSphere unified messaging capabilities for the company’s wireless and wireline customers, according to a press release. Metaswitch offers multiple technologies and solutions that are helping communications networks to transition to open, next-generation architectures.

Alaska Communications offers high-speed wireless, mobile broadband, Internet, local, long-distance and advanced data solutions to both consumers and businesses all over Alaska. Alaska Communications was in search of a platform that could successfully support unified messaging when the company decided to use Metaswitch for that unified messaging platform, as the company’s enterprise customer base continued to expand at a rapid pace.

“We pride ourselves on bringing the latest technology to Alaska and delivering a premier experience to our customers,” said Ruth Willard, director of end-to-end revenue management and Metaswitch project manager at Alaska Communications. “With MetaSphere, we are now able to give our customers the flexibility to consolidate their messaging services and to access them from multiple devices. Combined with Metaswitch’s outstanding sales and support team, we feel very confident in our decision to build on Metaswitch.”

Working in conjunction with Metaswitch, Alaska Communications had the ability to consolidate three separate enterprise messaging systems into one streamlined unified communications platform, which is centralized in Anchorage. The company can now offer its customers a much more efficient way to manage messaging services, according to the release. This has helped operational savings greatly increase.

“With increased competition across the industry, it’s vital that we continue to provide innovation that keeps our customers ahead of the game,” said Jeff Lattomus, vice president of sales at Metaswitch. “After working closely with Alaska Communications on this strategic project, it is evident that they are another great example of how carriers are evolving to meet the new realities of the telecom marketplace.”
