MRV Communications, Inc., a provider of optical communications systems and services to service providers and enterprises around the world, demonstrated advanced Carrier Ethernet Global Interconnect interoperability for its Optical Carrier Ethernet Access product series at the recently held Ethernet Expo Americas Conference & Exhibition in New York.

Officials with MRV Communications (News - Alert) said that the OptiSwitch Carrier Ethernet Access series was part of the interoperability showcase conducted by the European Advanced Networking Test Center “EANTC” at the show.

The demonstration concluded the 3rd phase of the EANTC's test program and focused on expanding interconnect footprints from Europe into North America, adding tests of Ethernet Services OAM and end-to-end performance monitoring of a wholesale Global Carrier Ethernet Network-to-Network service.

"MRV's participation at Ethernet Expo Americas further highlighted our commitment and proactive pursuit of interoperable solutions for delivering Carrier Ethernet networks that spans over multiple service providers worldwide," said Barry R. Gorsun, president of the Optical Communications Systems (News - Alert) division at MRV.

Gorsun said that MRV's exceptional and innovative OptiSwitch solution provides a comprehensive set of hardware-based OAM and Performance Monitoring tools that enable service providers to roll out end-to-end Ethernet Services with SLA assurance and verification across Global Ethernet Interconnection facilities.

MRV's OptiSwitch 900 Carrier Ethernet Access series will participate as NIDs (Network Interface Devices) that are deployed at customer locations terminating end-to-end Ethernet MEF (News - Alert) specified Ethernet Network-to-Network Service.

The solution will enable end-to-end service visibility for global Ethernet interconnects spanning multiple operators' networks across Europe, and expanding over transatlantic link to USA.

"Global Ethernet Interconnect service is one of the most important topics of today in the booming Carrier Ethernet market--the success of this interoperability testing will give service providers another measure of confidence needed to expand their Ethernet investments," said Michael Howard, principal analyst, carrier and data center networks for Infonetics Research (News - Alert).

Howard said that MRV's participation in this demonstration shows the company's dedication to Carrier Ethernet and positions the company as a key player in this growing market.

"We are delighted that MRV has taken a leading role in providing the NID functionality to the Service Provider Interoperability Test -- Phase 3," said Carsten Rossenhoevel, managing director of EANTC.

"MRV's OptiSwitch 900 carrier-grade Carrier Ethernet demarcation device enabled us to validate Ethernet Fault Management and Performance Monitoring. Using OptiSwitch units in seven service provider POP locations allowed us to monitor the availability of Ethernet services spanning over exchange points in Europe and North America," said Rossenhoevel.
