TDS Picks Metaswitch Platforms and Applications

By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributor

Wireline carrier TDS Telecommunications has announced the selection of Metaswitch platforms and applications.

Metaswitch Networks is a provider of the technologies and solutions that are powering the migration of communications networks to open, next-generation architectures.

Previously, TDS deployed Metaswitch universal gateways and MetaSphere call feature servers for the economic benefits of migrating from TDM to an IP infrastructure for Class 4 switching. Company officials said that this deployment allows TDS to collapse a number of Class 5 central offices.

Enabled by the Metaswitch MetaSphere platform, the next phase of the modernization is expected to introduce enhanced business and residential services, said company officials.

TDS provides phone, Internet and entertainment services to hundreds of rural, suburban and business communities nationwide. The company’s primary focus is on, “delighting customers, championing economic development, and continuing broadband innovation,” said Ken Paker, vice president of network services at TDS.

Paker also said that with Metaswitch, the company sees the same “high level commitment” to the things that matter most to its customers - “quality engineering, reliability, exceptional customer support and innovation.”

The TDS investment is a “stand-out” example of the long term value that a Metaswitch foundation can bring, said Kevin DeNuccio (News - Alert), CEO at Metaswitch, adding that by building on Metaswitch, TDS has selected a platform that will allow them to ride a “wave of exciting innovation and additional cost-efficiencies.”

Earlier this year in May, Metaswitch Networks and Varaha (News - Alert) Systems announced their selection by DSM (News - Alert) Telecom, a Nova Scotia Canada-based company, to provide enhanced FMC features to DSM’s customers.
