ProVision Enables Secure Streaming of Live HD Video Across Multiple Rooms

By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor

ProVision, has stated their new AXAR1500, a consumer electronics technology system can securely stream live HD to all rooms of the home and has been selected by UKTI to highlight the best of British technology at CES (News - Alert) Unveiled.

AXAR1500 streams HD video content from a Blu-ray player, PVR or HD set top box to AXAR enabled TVs or Wi-Fi connected PCs and mobile phones throughout the home over a standard Wi-Fi (802.11n) network. It also features real-time protocols that support fast channel hopping and interactive TV guide operation.

For video-encoding, video packet transfer and wireless broadcast the AXAR 1500 makes use of open technology standards which makes its cheaper for licensed IP to be integrated into a vast array of set top boxes and TVs from multiple manufacturers.

According to ProVision AXAR-enabled products can then be used to wirelessly stream live or recorded HD content throughout the home, remotely control video sources, including channel changing and playback functions and simultaneously manage two independent sources of HD content. The new technology can also be added to suitable existing equipment, so legacy investment is not wasted.

ProVision’s CEO, Steve Cliffe has commented that streaming live TV presents unique challenges and requires an in-depth knowledge of both wireless networks and video systems and their new breakthrough is a credit to the team’s expertise in radio propagation, antenna design, wireless networking and video coding and they are delighted to have created the first consumer device that can receive live HD video across all rooms.

The company has stated that the AXAR architecture allows the user to place multiple displays – HD screens or portable players – anywhere in the home. Novel antenna design in the Sender and Receiver means that both units are insensitive to location and orientation. Because it is built on industry standards the AXAR waveform can be received on any wireless-enabled desktop or notebook computer using a software player.

AXAR1500 will be sold under an IP licensing model and will be integrated into set top boxes and TVs from major consumer electronics manufacturers and multinational OEMs.
