OtterBox Intros Tandem Series, Will Offer Enhanced Protection to Palm Pre Users

By Raja Singh Chaudhary, TMCnet Contributor

OtterBox, a provider of premier protective solutions for global handheld manufacturers, wireless carriers and distributors has reportedly announced it will launch a new case line called the Tandem Series. This case line offers flagship protection for the Palm Pre smartphones, enhancing the user experience with the same attention to detail and consideration for protection as other OtterBox lines.

According to company officials, the Tandem Series provides two custom fit polycarbonate shells with overmolding that offer safety against unexpected bumps and shocks, while the adhesive screen included in the case line shields against scratches. The first shell attaches to the front of the smartphone and the second shell attaches to the back. Outside edges of the case contain a layering of silicone that offers protection against bumps and the polycarbonate shells safeguard the device against light impacts.
Unlike other case lines, the Tandem Series allows for complete functionality after it is assembled, even when sliding the display screen up and down. A thin layer of silicone covers the volume keys and power button, while the user can openly access the USB/charge port, earpiece, home button, microphone, display screen, speaker, camera, flash and other features. A microfiber cleaning cloth and an installation card are included within the series itself. Currently available in black color, the Tandem Series measures 103.78 mm x 64.63 mm x 21.86 mm, and weighs just 22.23 g, so that it doesn’t make the user experience uncomfortable.
According to Curt Richardson (News - Alert), CEO at OtterBox, the company has finally “put rubber to the road” with the concept of a case for a slider phone and found the Palm Pre just the right place to start. Richardson noted that the Tandem Series is a completely new design for OtterBox and the company has spent significant time and effort to offer not only protection, but functionality. Overmolding is an injection molding process that combines two materials into one interconnected component, and the Tandem Series is created by molding polycarbonate and silicone together, he added.
Recently, OtterBox had unveiled its Impact Series case specifically designed for the Samsung (News - Alert) Instinct s30 mobile phone, which was released in April 2009. The Impact Series was aimed at providing protection to the device through just one layer, and was equipped with two separate thicknesses of silicone and inner coring on the corners for impact absorbing or shock absorbing.
Later, the company announced the introduction of two distinctive protective cases for the LG Versa mobile phone, named OtterBox Impact and Commuter Series cases.
