Scanbuy, Inc., a provider of mobile barcode solutions, has announced that its ScanLife mobile barcode application will be pre-loaded on Sony Ericsson ( News - Alert) camera enabled devices.
Phones have been already launched with the embedded technology in Spain, Italy, and Mexico with more countries scheduled to follow.
The ScanLife mobile application converts a typical camera phone into a universal barcode reader. With one scan, the application can automatically link to a specific Web site, launch a video, dial a phone number, and more.
Using the camera phone, the mobile application can also read all 1D and 2D barcode formats including Datamatrix, EZcode, QR, UPC, and EAN.
"Scanbuy and our partners are building a global infrastructure to make mobile barcode scanning completely ubiquitous and easy for the end-user," said Jonathan Bulkeley, CEO of Scanbuy.
"This partnership is already generating tangible results as people are using new Sony Ericsson phones today with our application," Bulkeley said.
Also, Telcel ( News - Alert), a wireless provider in Mexico, has started pre-loading a number of phones with ScanLife and Coca-Cola, Nike, and Frito-Lay have used EZcodes on their marketing material including print advertisements and packaging.
