Gefen, a provider of plug-and-play products that supplement cross-platform computer systems, professional audio/video environments and HDTV systems of all sizes, announced that it will showcase a pair of new wireless extension solutions for home theater systems, GefenTV Wireless, at 2009 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES (News - Alert)) in Las Vegas.

 

Gefen’s two new products that were launched include: ‘GefenTV Wireless for 1080 pixel Full HD’ and ‘GefenTV Wireless for video graphics array (VGA)’. These two wireless extension solutions facilitate in placing of high-definition televisions (HDTVs) in difficult installation locations such as the ceiling or on a wall, without having to run wires to the set.

 

According to Gefen, it’s ‘GefenTV Wireless for 1080p Full HD’ is capable of extending HD (high-definition) video and audio through HDMI (high-definition multimedia interface) up to 30 feet line-of-sight distance from the source. The solution utilizes 60Hz UWB (ultra-wide band) technology. It also features an IR (infra-red) repeater that will relay remote control commands from remote location back to the source.

 

GefenTV Wireless for 1080p Full HD leverages on simple send-and-receive methodology. All HDMI devices can be supported from Blu-ray players to game consoles. In addition, it incorporates ‘automatic switching’ feature that monitors the HDMI input ports and switches to either one when an HDMI source is turned on.   

 

The ‘GefenTV Wireless for VGA’ is based on 082.11 technology. It has the capability to extend wirelessly up to 33 feet line-of-sight from the source. It consists of two units – a sender unit and a receiver unit. Both units feature two-channel stereo audio and a RS-232 connection.

 

Gefen said that it will also showcase its Wireless for HDMI 5Ghz extender at 2009 CES in Las Vegas. The GefenTV Wireless for HDMI 5Ghz Extender functionality is to extend high definition video and audio for long distance wirelessly. This extender leverages Amimon's 5Ghz wireless HDTV technology and has the capability to deliver high definition video up to 1080p/30, supporting 5.1 digital audio and analog two-channel L/R audio up to 30-meters distance.
