Lenovo Unveils Multimedia-Rich IdeaPad Y710 Notebook PC in India

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Lenovo (News - Alert) unveiled a new multimedia notebook PC, IdeaPad Y710, in India, said an announcement from the company today.

IdeaPad Y710 has a number of features to offer an exciting multimedia and gaming experience to its users. IdeaPad Y710 is Lenovo’s first notebook with a 17-inch monitor and comes with a resolution of 1440 x 900 pixels.

IdeaPad Y710 has a hard drive of up to 320 GB with a speed of 5400rpm and an additional hot swap hard drive. It is the first Lenovo PC that is provided with RAID functionality, a function that simultaneously uses both the hard disk drives to achieve greater levels of input/ output performance and data reliability. It also maintains mirror copies of the data on different drives to ensure complete data security.

The new notebook is featured with an ATI Radeon Mobility HD 2600 with 512MB of memory. It is provided with wireless local area network (WLAN) connectivity, Dolby Home Theatre system as well as an optional Blu-ray DVD reader. The notebook features a performance control switch with turbo mode for maximum power, which includes CPU overclocking and quiet mode for saving energy. Its Multimedia Control Center offers a pleasant multimedia experience with easy-to-use software to play movies, listen to music and view photos.

Lenovo said the IdeaPad Y710 can also be used as a desktop PC because of its larger screen, increased storage and high speed.

Selected models of Lenovo IdeaPad Y710 include Game Zone functionality. There is a dedicated Game Zone that includes enlarged directional buttons for enhanced game play, four user customizable buttons and a secondary display showing system information such as CPU speed, according to Lenovo.

Additionally, IdeaPad Y710 uses VeriFace face recognition software technology with an integrated 1.3-megapixel camera to recognize user’s face to log in to the PC. This facility eliminates the manual login process and ensures more security, said Lenovo.

The notebook is designed with a smooth, blue, metallic finish, embellished with halo lighting, accenting the top cover and backlit Lenovo logo. The frameless screen and a thin bezel make the screen appear larger.

Amar Babu, managing director, Lenovo, India, said, “There is significant excitement globally for this product given its top notch specs. The IdeaPad Y710 will revolutionalize the market with its hot-swappable twin 160 GB hard drive that gives the user 320 GB of storage space. With the option of a dedicated Game Zone keyboard for gamers, the IdeaPad Y710 is definitely a multimedia powerhouse,”
