2K Games, a wholly owned subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive Software (News - Alert), will now be assisting Digital Extremes to optimize BioShock for the PlayStation3 (PS 3) computer entertainment system. Both companies have recently signed a mutual agreement on this.

 

Released on August 21, 2007, BioShock is a first-person shooter video game previously known as Irrational Games, designed by Ken Levine. Until now, the game was only available for the Windows operating system and the Xbox 360 video game console.

 

"By partnering with Digital Extremes, 2K Games is delivering a fully optimized experience that takes advantage of the PlayStation 3 system hardware," said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K.

 

Hartmann believes that bringing Digital Extremes on board allows the company to continue to deliver the best experience possible to its customers.

 

With this agreement, Digital Extremes joins the team of 2K Marin, 2K Boston, 2K Australia who are already into the job of developing this version to PS 3.

 

The BioShock version of PS 3 with new features and content will be shipped to retailers in October 2008.

 

Using the experience it gained from working on the recently released Dark Sector, Digital Extremes said it is partnering with the 2K studios to help optimize BioShock's performance on the PlayStation 3 system.

 

Digital Extremes stated BioShock is a narrative-driven action experience that allows players to do the impossible as they journey through an amazing, immersive and terrifying world. Caught between powerful forces and hunted down by genetically mutated citizens, the player will come to grips with the mysterious and fascinating world of Rapture, a distinct Art Deco underwater utopia gone mad.

 

Digital Extremes is a development studio in the interactive entertainment industry. The Canadian based developer is best known for its co-creation of Epic Games' Unreal.
