Fujitsu Strengthens Self-Service Solutions

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributing Editor

A new self-service organization by Fujitsu Transaction Solutions will develop and market comprehensive self-service solutions and services to the retail industry, among others.

Ed Soladay, CEO at Fujitsu Transaction Solutions, noted in a statement that Fujitsu has always had a strong reputation as a self-checkout and self-service hardware provider, and they want to expand upon that success by combining all of their self-service solutions under a single banner.

Fujitsu Transaction Solutions wants to develop and provide a total self-service solution for retailers in multiple segments, and believes Fujitsu has a strategic advantage to achieve that goal.

Peter Wolf, who joined Fujitsu in 2006, has served the company as vice president of marketing. He is now the vice president of self-service strategy and will now lead the overall strategic direction of the group. Wolf boasts a strong background in customer-centric retail technology strategy and solution development.

Bruce Kopp, previously vice president of sales and client management, will now serve as senior vice president of sales and marketing. With more than 23 years of management and sales experience in the retail industry, Kopp joined Fujitsu in 2006. He was an executive of IBM’s (News - Alert) Retail Strategy team before joining Fujitsu.

Fujitsu’s Pervasive Retailing Framework facilitates customer interactions through application interoperability, seamless integration and relentless cost reduction. According to Fujitsu, this unit will build on that framework to deliver end-to-end, self-service solutions by creating and combining several hardware, software and services offerings. This includes the use of self-checkout systems, self-service kiosks, mobile computing, and more.

Aiming to develop an interoperable retailing environment with other store and enterprise systems, the unit empowers retailers, store associates, and customers.

Fujitsu Transaction Solutions, a wholly owned subsidiary of Fujitsu Limited, collaborates with retailing companies to relentlessly reduce their costs and facilitate consumer interactions that improve their profitability.

In other news, Fujitsu Japan has partnered with muvee, the pioneer in automatic video editing. Under the agreement, a special version of muveeNow, muvee will help the users to instantly create home movies, or "muvees", from their photos and videos.
