Under a recent agreement, General Imaging, the worldwide exclusive licensee for GE digital cameras, will make its entire line of digital cameras available through Amazon.com ( News - Alert).
The popular online retailer is already selling some GE-branded cameras and will now be offering the 2008 models, including the entry-level A series, the mid-price E series, and the ultra-compact G series.
All GE cameras have sleek and intuitive design. Although the standard colors for the GE cameras are black, silver or red, some models are also available in additional colors.
Starting at under $90, the GE cameras boast a variety of popular, advanced functions as standard features, including face detection, image stabilization, red-eye removal, 1600 ISO sensitivity, and panorama stitching. All these features are embedded in the camera. By utilizing panorama stitching, users can “see the bigger picture” by joining three images together seamlessly to take in landscapes and other wide vistas.
Hiroshi “Hugh” Komiya, chairman and CEO of General Imaging expressed his company’s delight to offer their products through Amazon.com. He said in a statement that Amazon has continued its amazing growth through 2007 and now into 2008, and they are happy to be a part of it.
Rene Buhay, General Imaging’s senior vice president of Sales and Marketing for the Americas, explained in a statement that many of their customers appreciate the convenience and selection of online shopping, and Amazon.com is obviously a leader in that category.
General Imaging thinks e-commerce will continue its strong growth, and thus believes Amazon.com is a perfect place for them to extend their brand.
The GE cameras also include blink detection and smile detection, which enables user to capture just the right moment when taking shots of people. Once the user takes a shot, the blink detection feature alerts the user that the subject’s eyes were closed and allows another attempt. The smile detection feature trips the shutter automatically when the subject smiles.
Expected to be available by June, the GE E1050 model adds several additional features, including touch-screen controls, high-definition video capture, and HDMI connectivity for use with today’s HDTV sets. The company intends to launch a GPS-enabled version of the E1050, which will identify precisely where photos are taken, by this fall.
