By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Nagravision, an independent provider of value-added content protection solutions, Magneti Marelli and Quantum, a supplier of innovative mobile multimedia devices and software, have jointly unveiled QTM TV, a DVB-H/DVB-T Pay-TV Mobile set top box for Automotive Applications.

Nagravision is committed to its goal of introducing new innovations that enable mass market adoption of DVB-H services.

“We are very proud of this collaboration with Magneti Marelli and Quantum that extends the digital mobile TV user experience to the automotive environment in the tier 1 original equipment segment,” Jean-Luc Jezouin, Senior Vice President Mobile TV business unit at Nagravision was quoted as saying.

The QTM TV is the first commercially available automotive-grade set top box that offers digital terrestrial broadcasting reception inside a car. It is based on a hybrid DVB-T and DVB-H architecture, wherein a twin diversity tuner is integrated for high quality mobile reception. With QTM TV, car passengers will be able to gain ‘on the move’ access to a wide range of digital TV programs right inside their automobile.

Stefano Martini, CEO of Quantum commented, “We are delighted to have worked with industry leaders Nagravision and Magneti Marelli and are proud to introduce the world’s first mobile set top box for Pay-TV services that seamlessly support both DVB-H and DVB-T. This will provide our service provider customers with enhanced revenue generating opportunities by enabling automotive passengers to access real time information and entertainment”.

By combining pay TV channels, the device will offer the broadest range of digital TV programming. Nagravision will manage the security as well as other “free to air” broadcasts. With an integrated SIM card, QTM TV also offers real-time traffic data monitoring capabilities and enormous opportunities to service providers to increase their revenues.

Marco Nassi, Magneti Marelli Director of Telematics Full Multimedia Systems & ADAS also commented, “We are extremely proud of offering integrated on our infotelematic devices the world’s first mobile set top box for Pay-TV services. Magneti Marelli has the same vision as Quantum and Nagravision of enhancing in-car infotainment functionality giving to passengers high quality digital TV service and increasing the journey experience on the car.”
