Apple ( News - Alert) today added new models of the iPhone and iPod Touch, with double the memory available in previous models.
This means the new models allow users to carry twice as much music, photos and videos on their devices.
Noting that for some users, there is never enough memory, Greg Joswiak, vice president of worldwide iPod and iPhone ( News - Alert) product marketing at Apple, said in a statement, “Now people can enjoy even more of their music, photos and videos on the most revolutionary mobile phone and best WiFi mobile device in the world.”
Both iPhone and iPod touch feature Multi-Touch user interface and software that allows users to find their music, videos, photos and more. In addition, iPhone and iPod Touch come with the Safari Web browser and also mobile applications including Mail, Maps, Stocks, Weather and Notes.
Additionally, all iPhone and iPod touch models ship with the latest software enhancements announced last month, including the ability to automatically find one’s location using the new Maps application. Users can create Web Clips for favorite Web sites. Also, the software enhancements features customize home screen and users can watch movies from the new iTunes Movie Rentals.
Apple said the iPhone now comes in a 16GB model for $499, joining the 8GB model for $399. And, iPod Touch now comes in a 32GB model for $499, joining the 16GB model for $399 and the 8GB model for $299.
In January, Apple has said that the company had sold more than 4 million iPhones since sales began last June. According to Reuters ( News - Alert), the updated models come amid a slump in Apple’s stock, due to fears that a U.S. recession could make consumers less likely to buy iPods or iPhones.
