WD Designs New 320GB USB Drive

By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Storage devices developer, Western Digital (WD), has launched a new type of USB drive with a storage capacity of up to 320 GB.

The portable device was launched as a complementary tool for WD’s ‘My Book’ range of external drives and is known as ‘My Passport Essential USB’.

The device comes in a black cover which can be carried as well as easily accessed while traveling. The weight of the device is no more than five ounces, and the component has been secured with encryption data which is compatible with Windows.

With My Passport Essential USB, a large amount of content can be carried conveniently and users can transfer desktop content seamlessly onto the USB by using the WD Sync application.

The 128-bit encryption feature ensures that content kept on the pocket-sized device is fully secure if it is lost, stolen or temporarily misplaced. High resolution photos can also be easily transferred and organized onto the device using applications such as Picasa.

Apart from having a secure facility for storing essential files, a capacity for storing high-resolution files is also a priority for today’s users. Digital photos, music and videos can be easily carried around and shared with the My Pocket Essential USB, as it has a storage capacity of 320 GB and the device enables professionals to keep important documents organized while also allowing them to enjoy access to personal music and image files.

General Manager and Vice-President of Branded Products at WD, Jim Welsh commented, “The newly designed My Passport Essential drives are the perfect travel-friendly storage device to hold the rich media content generated by higher resolution photos and HD videos and music. The desire to carry and keep their digital files close at hand continues to grow and this new drive offers a sleek and stylish solution with plenty of storage capacity for consumers on the move.”

The USB device is priced at US $199.99 and is available at electronic retail outlets or from WD’s online store.
