Providing more support to Blu-Ray supporters, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment announced a new line-up of Blu-ray initiatives for 2008, including an expanding portfolio of technology advancements in bonus feature materials.
Starting in fall 2008, Walt Disney will begin releasing its animated classics on Platinum Edition Blu-ray Disc for the first time ever, Wireless News reported. Utilizing the technological advancements of the new format, Disney will include with each disc interactive content (e.g. virtual games) and other features (e.g. motion picture-in-picture and online shopping capabilities).
As part of its continued worldwide Blu-ray release strategy, Walt Disney also plans to announce the addition of many movie titles to its 2008 Blu-ray line-up in North America, Europe and Asia, Wireless News said.
“This is an exciting time for Disney as we not only announce the release of our first Platinum Disney animated classic on Blu-ray with Sleeping Beauty, but also allow consumers to create an entirely new home entertainment experience with stunning new bonus features and amazing interactive capabilities like never before seen,” the Wireless News report quoted Bob Chapek, President of Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, as saying.
Apart from movie titles, there will be the all-new BD-Java enabled learning environment, “Mr. Ray's Ed-venture.” Using this “game,” kids and families can learn all about sea life and earn virtual stickers by answering “quizlettes” while watching the movie.
Walt Disney will be releasing different titles in North America, Europe and Japan in the coming months. Also, eight additional North American cities will get the extension of Disney's Magical Blu-ray Tour, sponsored by Panasonic ( News - Alert). The first stop will be to Toronto, Canada the weekend of January 25th and continue on to Nashville, Denver, Dallas, Raleigh-Durham, Hartford and concluding in Chicago at the Unity 2008 show in July.
