TeleNav Launches Whereboutz Application Built on Facebook Platform

By Anuradha Shukla, TMCnet Contributing Editor

TeleNav (News - Alert) has launched a new online and mobile social networking service called Whereboutz.

Available online through Facebook (News - Alert) as well as on more than 100 cell phone models through a downloadable application, Whereboutz is a quick and entertaining way for users to meet up or find out where their friends are and what they are doing, anytime and from anywhere.

HP Jin (News - Alert), president, CEO and co-founder of TeleNav said in a statement that they know people want an enjoyable way to stay in touch with their friends and relatives, especially around the holidays. Their new Whereboutz service instantly connects people no matter where they are. Jin can now keep up with his friends and family living here and anywhere across the globe.

Through Whereboutz Facebook application, users can easily update their current location by typing in an address and adding notes about what they are up to. The application features an interactive map that shows members where their friends are as well as the comments about what they are doing. A local search function also allows members to look up businesses nearby so they can suggest places to meet.

If a user has not updated his/her location in a while, through one click friends can quickly determine their ‘whereboutz.’ While users will receive a text message to let them know that their friends want to know where they are, they can also post their own locations and comments directly from their cell phones so they can keep in touch while on the go. Users of this application will receive a text message when others update their ‘whereboutz.’

Deployed by 14 carriers in 21 countries, TeleNav is a global provider of wireless location-based services (LBS). Currently, TeleNav’s solutions are available in four continents, including North and South America, Asia and Europe.
