dotMobi, Mobile Complete Team-Up to Help Mobile Web Developers

By Prabhala Ranga Sai, TMCnet Contributing Editor

dotMobi – the consortium behind the only Internet address created specifically for mobile phones – has partnered with Mobile Complete (News - Alert) to take mobile web forward. The partnership helps mobile web developers with special benefits such as free access to remote handsets. The current move gives thousands of members of the dotMobi (News - Alert) Developer Forum (dev.mobi) complimentary access of more than 750 live mobile handsets from their desktops.

After launching the domain registrations and auctions of URLs in a big way for mobile Web, dotMobi is now marching ahead with the moves to simplify the development of mobile content and applications.

Mobile Complete, a pioneer and leading provider of mobile testing, monitoring and support solutions aimed at improving the mobile experience, is making five free hours of testing available to any registered user of dev.mobi.

Mobile Complete’s DeviceAnywhere service provides users with connection to, and interaction with, live mobile handsets over the Internet. Developers simply log in, choose from the hundreds of available devices and the global networks currently supported in DeviceAnywhere, and start testing.

With DeviceAnywhere, developers can remotely control all the functions of devices from their desktop computer. When developers are able to control all the interfaces of a device as if it is in their hands, they will be able to bring mobile applications to market faster, more easily and at lower costs than previously possible, dotMobi said.

“We are providing .mobi site developers a true end-to-end solution to collaborate and streamline processes associated with the mobile applications lifecycle,” said Faraz Syed, Co-Founder and CEO of Mobile Complete. “dotMobi has revolutionized the use of the web on mobile devices. By partnering with them on projects like this, we can help ensure that applications developed around .mobi are optimized for use by mobile devices.”

“Facilitating the growth of mobile content is one of our primary goals,” said Trey Harvin, CEO, dotMobi. “By partnering with Mobile Complete to offer free handset access time for our developers, we're creating a win-win situation for mobile consumers as well as those developing applications for them by making content easier to create and publish.”

DotMobi’s efforts to develop mobile web are backed by leading mobile operators, network & device manufacturers, and internet content providers, including Ericsson (News - Alert), GSM Association, Hutchison 3, Microsoft, Nokia (News - Alert), Orascom Telecom, Samsung Electronics, Syniverse, T-Mobile, Telefonica Moviles, TIM, Visa and Vodafone. dotMobi is also a sponsor of W3C's Mobile Web Initiative.
