Biometric fingerprint authentication technology is making its way into the retail industry as a quick way to manage and handle employee and Point-of-Sale (POS) requirements.
Today, DigitalPersona, whose biometric authentication technologies provide accurate fingerprint recognition, announced store automation technology provider, NCR has chosen to incorporate their biometric fingerprint technology into their POS solution.
For retailers this means an easy way to bring the security of biometrics into their operations with out needing to invest in separate technologies.
Fingerprint recognition is also reliable and convenient solution as it can be easily incorporated into devices and solutions to meet regulatory compliance and productivity needs.
The solution also offers an alternative to the need for smart cards and lets employees instead swipe their finger to be identified. Identification can be used to grant access to POS terminals, manage employee attendance and better handle voids and returns.
Because the solution will be a combined biometrics solution, the uptake and acceptance of the technology will see an increase, Michael Printz, vice president of worldwide sales for DigitalPersona, noted in a statement.
"The availability of biometrically enabled NCR POS terminals is getting attention from a number of retailers that would not have sought out biometrics on their own when updating their POS technology."
