Danish Police have selected Steria, provider of IT-enabled business services for an eight-year biometric fingerprint identification program that aims at improving the accuracy and speed of fingerprint authentication by moving to 100 percent digital processes.

“By supporting the Danish Police with such an important, transformational project, we expect that homeland security and law enforcement agencies globally will see how powerful and essential biometry is in today’s complex, modern world,” said Trygve Solem, head of biometrics at Steria.

Solem also noted this contract signals the beginning of a real breakthrough for Steria in this domain, which the company will continue to champion for years to come.  Danish Police will now have a range of in-house solutions and tools, including SteriaAFIS, SteriaFIT and enrolment stations with live scanners.

The user-friendly SteriaAFIS system provides fast and accurate search and storage capabilities and uses multiple fingers to maximize results reliability, including single-finger, ten prints, palm and latents all within a single platform.

A fast matcher capability also allows for a full 20-finger search in less than two seconds using both rolled and flat-impression fingerprints. This increases the probability of a match for poor quality fingerprints.

Not only will this enable fast, electronic and accurate capture but the storage and biometric matching of fingerprints in large databases will replace the need for manual interaction with paper and ink-based enrollment of criminals from a forensics expert.
