For sometime, passwords were the most reliable way to gain secure access. But with security breaches on the rise, more users are turning to a solution that is far more reliable and easier than remembering or entering numeric and alphabetic passwords. Biometric technology, and specifically biometric fingerprint recognition technology is now offering a replacement to passwords that are easily stolen or forgotten.
For corporate users, remembering passwords has grown into a list of tons of different words and combinations being periodically changed to meet security needs. Many times users find themselves just writing down those passwords to remember them. But true password protection requires an elimination of writing passwords down as that increases the chances a password is stolen--- and possibly putting an entire enterprise at risk.
A recent survey conducted by Nucleus Research found that corporations looking to offer truly secure access for users need to look beyond passwords to other authentication strategies like biometrics, since employing such things as frequent password changes or complex combinations does not better protect access.
Fingerprint recognition is a much more reliable and convenient solution. It can be easily built into devices and the urgent need to meet regulatory compliance is driving an uptake in biometric solutions.
DigitialPersona, provider of fingerprint authentication solutions for enterprises and commercial applications announced yesterday the release of their new enterprise single sign-on (ESSO) authentication software solution, DigitalPersona Pro 4.0.
The newly released version boasts increased security and manageability as well as support for biometric enabled notebooks. The solution is aimed at corporate enterprises, medium-sized businesses and commercial industries. Key features include, improved network security, reduced IT support costs, and assistance in regulatory compliance efforts.
