Motorists with flexible fuel vehicles (FFVs) in the Pittsburgh area can take advantage of scoring cheap E85 this weekend.

 

As part of a marketing initiative with VeraSun and Sheetz, a family-owned and operated convenience store chain, VeraSun’s VE85 will be available for sale at select locations on December 16 for just $.85 per gallon. Customers can fill up their FFVs at the rate from 10am to 3pm at 3954 William Penn Highway in Monroeville, 5400 Campbells Run Road in Robinson Township, and the first Sheetz location to sell VE85, the store on Route 51, Clairton Blvd. in Pleasant Hills.

 

The $.85 per gallon price is hoped to encourage FFV owners to test the renewable fuel.

 

On July 10, 2006, Sheetz, Inc. joined VeraSun Energy Corporation, General Motors Corporation, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to bring VeraSun E85, an ethanol-based renewable fuel to Pittsburgh. Sheetz, Inc. was the first chain retailer in Pennsylvania to begin selling E85, another industry-first for the Altoona based company.

 

Governor Edward G. Rendell selected Sheetz, Inc. in October 2006 to receive the Renewable Agricultural Energy Council Leadership Award based the company's efforts towards renewable energy and biofuel development and deployment in Pennsylvania.

 

"Sheetz, Inc. is thrilled to have the opportunity to make this biofuel, VE85(TM), available to our customers at an even greater low price," said Louie Sheetz, executive vice-president of marketing for Sheetz, Inc. in a statement to the press.

 

VeraSun’s VE85 is a trademarked product under VeraSun Energy and is available at more than 80 retail locations.
