NTT Research to Host Upgrade 2023 Global Innovation SummitNTT Research, Inc., a division of NTT (TYO:9432), today announced plans to hold Upgrade 2023, the NTT Research Summit, as an in-person event on March 15-16, 2023. This year's summit, organized under the theme "Scaling the Future," opens on March 15 at 9:00 a.m. (PST). The free, two-day event will focus on scaling ideas to innovations that can impact the world. Day 1 will focus on the Innovative Optical and Wireless Network (IOWN) initiative and will include an Innovation Expo. Day 2 will feature sessions on breakthroughs in data privacy, precision cardiology, nonlinear optics, advanced encryption technologies, the digital workplace and the network edge. Speakers include executives and scientists from NTT Group companies. The in-person event will take place at the NTT Experience Center (XC) and the Metreon, both in San Francisco. The topic for Day 1 (March 15) of Upgrade 2023 is IOWN, the innovative vision proposed by NTT in 2019 to enable high-speed, large-capacity communication and information processing infrastructure that transcends current limitations while addressing the growing concerns on energy consumption of IT. The exhibition showcases the most up-to-date innovations occurring at NTT Research in the U.S. and NTT R&D in Japan, and it will take place at the NTT XC, 690 Folsom St., San Francisco. Day 1 events extend from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Day 2 (March 16) of Upgrade 2023 will include keynote presentations by Kazuhiro Gomi, President & CEO of NTT Research, and Atsuko Oka, EVP and Head of NTT Research and Development (R&D) Planning and member of the NTT Research Board of Directors. The keynotes will cover breakthroughs in basic research as well as a vision for future innovations coming from NTT. Oka will present the short and long-term ambition for IOWN, an initiative born out of the basic research labs of NTT R&D. Day 2 also includes panel discussions focusing on the relationship between culture, fundamental research and innovation. Moderator Paul Rand, host of the University of Chicago's Big Brains podcast, will guide the panel through a discussion of how to serve society through the pursuit of ideas with possible applications in business. It will also explore the journey of ideas from basic research to proof-of-concept and prototyping to expanding and potentially world-changing reach.
