Opera Mobile for Android now available for Intel architecture

(M2 PressWIRE Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Barcelona, Spain -- Today Opera Software is showing off a labs version of the Opera Mobile web browser for Android, now optimized for Intel architecture. This Opera Mobile Labs release will include advanced HTML5 and WebGL demos on the latest mobile devices powered by Intel chipsets.

Opera and Intel have been working together for over a year to bring Opera Mobile to Intel-processor-based Android devices. Now, developers with an Intel-processor-based phone or tablet can see the results by downloading Opera Mobile Labs at labs.opera.com. Advanced demos will also be available in the Opera booth in Hall 1 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

"Intel looks forward to a bright future with Android on Intel Atom processors," said Doug Fisher, Vice President of the Software and Services Group and General Manager of the Systems Software Division at Intel. "With several of our customers launching Android devices in 2012, Intel sees this as the year we will make significant progress with Android for phones and tablets. Working with companies like Opera Software allows us to deliver the Intel-based platforms, along with the high-quality Android applications, that users demand." Opera Mobile is an increasingly popular browser on the Android operating system, with super-smooth browsing, data savings when using the Opera Turbo mode, WebGL and industry-leading HTML5 support.

"We've worked hard to make an optimized version of Opera Mobile available for Intel-based Android devices. The Intel guys and Opera engineers from our Polish office, who made it happen, deserve a big round of applause," said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software. "This cooperation will bring Intel-based-device users around the world a high-quality browser ready for preinstallation or download."
