Nokia Siemens Signs GSM Network Expansion Deal with China Mobile Group Yunnan

Nokia Siemens (News - Alert) Networks has marked yet another leap in their growth by joining hands with China Mobile Group Yunnan Co., Ltd for a GSM network expansion. The contract is reportedly worth about EUR70 million.



 
China Mobile (News - Alert) Group Yunnan Co. Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of China Mobile Limited and provides mobile telecommunications and related services. Their agreement with Nokia (News - Alert) Siemens is expected to improve the GSM network.
 
Commenting on the increasing subscriber base in both rural and urban areas and the demand for expanded bandwidth, Zhang Zhiqiang, Head of Greater China Region, Nokia Siemens Networks (News - Alert) said in a statement to the press, "With the EDGE upgrade and our UltraSite BTS Mini Outdoor we fulfill the expectations of our customer and provide a new solution for rural coverage”.
 
As per the contract, Nokia Siemens will focus on both urban and rural areas of 11 cities of the Yunnan province with approximately 12 million subscribers. The agreement will also entail Nokia Siemens to upgrade YNMCC's network to support Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution (EDGE) for increased data transmission.
 
Nokia Siemens Networks will supply radio networks including the UltraSite BTS Mini Outdoor and implementation services, its mobile softswitching solution including MSC (Mobile Switching Center) Servers, Media Gateways and HLR (Home Location Register).
 
Care and delivery services for the necessary equipment will also be provided by Nokia Siemens. The company will also supply an expansion of the NetAct network and service management system, and NetAct Traffica for real-time network traffic monitoring and analysis.
 
According to a Nokia Siemens Networks statement, deliveries have already begun and the expansion is expected to be operational in October this year.
