Just days before the iPad goes on sale, Boingo Wireless (News - Alert) announced that Apple (News - Alert) iPad owners will be able to choose between WiFi access plans based on hourly credits or a monthly subscription to connect to its network of 125,000 WiFi hotspots from the moment the tablet is purchased.
“The iPad may be a new product, but it’s one with a familiar need: super-fast Internet in places where you’re likely to connect – coffee shops, restaurants, hotels, airports,” said Dave Hagan, president and CEO for Boingo Wireless. “Right out of the gate, iPad users will have the ability to access Boingo WiFi (News - Alert) as a convenient and affordable alternative or add-on to 3G Internet access, especially for the first wave of users for whom WiFi is the only connection choice.”
The “Boingo WiFi Credits” software app is immediately available for download from Apple’s U.S. App Store.
Consumers can purchase the $1.99 WiFi credits in advance or at the time of connect simply by confirming the purchase using their iTunes account login. The credits can be redeemed for 60 consecutive minutes of WiFi access at a single Boingo hotspot.
Targeting “road warriors and data hounds,” Boingo Mobile, a $7.95-per-month subscription that gives the user unlimited WiFi access worldwide, is another option.
