Cellcrypt Mobile Launches Encrypted Mobile Voice Calling

By Divya Narain, TMCnet Contributor

London based provider of secure mobile voice calling, Cellcrypt has announced that Cellcrypt Mobile is now available over Inmarsat’s (News - Alert) broadband satellite services.

The first-of-its-kind service will allow users to make encrypted calls on standard smartphones from anywhere in the world. Existing Cellcrypt (News - Alert) users can use the solution in places where there is no cellular or WiFi network coverage.

Additionally, Cellcrypt added the benefit of using a single device with a single phonebook for all secure calling situations. Existing users of Inmarsat’s mobile broadband services will be able to enjoy the benefit of high-strength security.

Cellcrypt Mobile for Satellite solution provides end-to-end real-time encryption on smartphones, such as Nokia (News - Alert). Earlier this year, TMC reported that Cellcrypt Mobile has been launched for BlackBerry (News - Alert) Smartphones. The solution allows users to converse securely without requiring specialized handsets.

Simon Bransfield-Garth, chief executive officer of Cellcrypt, said that this is the first solution that provides encrypted voice calls over satellites using commercial off the shelf smartphones.

“It provides a highly convenient and cost effective mechanism for people to make secure calls from locations where they have no cellular coverage or simply cannot rely on it,” said Bransfield-Garth.

Gordon McMillan, Director of Government Services at Inmarsat said that this collaboration adds additional voice functionality to Inmarsat’s mobile broadband services, particularly BGAN, and will address increasing concerns about the security of communications among a wide range of Inmarsat users.

Operating on all key wireless networks including 2G, 3G and Wi-Fi networks, Cellcrypt is trying to obtain certification for the FIPS 140-2 standard approved by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology.
