Export-Import Bank of Thailand Deploys Aruba's Wireless Solution

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributor

The Export-Import Bank of Thailand has selected and deployed Aruba 802.11n network to securely enhance the productivity of its workforce. Being one of the first 802.11n networks in Thailand, company officials said they conducted extensive due diligence prior to selecting a vendor.

“Like many other financial institutions, EXIM previously implemented a ‘no-wireless’ policy out of concerns about network security and privacy,” said Khun Wanchai Teppichaiyanond, EXIM’s manager of information technology operation and communication division, in a statement.

Khun said that the bank might still have that policy in place had it not been introduced to Aruba’s identity-based security.

He said that Aruba’s policy enforcement firewall, high security encryption and network access control deliver security comparable to or better than that used on the bank’s wired networks.

“The high speed 802.11n system gives our staff untethered, wire-like performance, allowing us to move forward with new efficiency initiatives that were predicated on having a mobile workforce,” he added.

“Our 802.11n network was easy to set-up and has required minimal on-going attention, a tribute to the automated features that keep the wireless services running at their best,” continued Khun.

He said that the employees much prefer the freedom that comes from using a wireless laptop or PDA, and IT appreciates that this newfound freedom did not come at the bank’s expense – the new system requires minimal IT overhead.

“Given EXIM’s success, I’m confident that other financial institutions will follow suit and right-size their wired networks,” said Khun.

Aruba Networks, Inc. is a major player in wireless LANs and secure mobility solutions. In June, TMCnet reported Aruba’s announcement that Sierra Community College District has selected Aruba's 802.11n high-speed Wi-Fi and remote access point solutions across the district’s four campuses.

The Sierra Community College District serves more than 20,000 students throughout its 3,200 square mile territory, and includes the 300-acre campus of Sierra College in Rocklin, CA (News - Alert), the 115-acre Nevada County Campus in Grass Valley (News - Alert), as well as campuses in Truckee and Roseville.

Aruba officials said that once completed, the new network will include redundant master controllers, multiple remote controllers, and more than 230 802.11n access points.
