Boingo Wireless has announced the availability of its Wi-Fi hotspot finder and connection manager for Android smartphones. Boingo (News - Alert) Wireless, Inc. makes it easy for people to access Wi-Fi on their laptop or mobile device at more than 100,000 hotspots throughout the world.

 

Android is the mobile operating system developed by Google (News - Alert) and the Open Handset Alliance. Android is among the fastest-growing mobile operating systems (OSs) in the world. The open platform on Android enables Boingo to produce a user-friendly and easy-to-use Wi-Fi experience for the Android (News - Alert) platform.

 

Wi-Fi is an important part of the entire growing smartphone market. According to Jonathan Mendelson, general manager of mobile and product management at Boingo Wireless (News - Alert), the fast Boingo network will enable a user to do more on his Android phone from anywhere in the world. The benefits include faster uploads to YouTube and Picasa, quicker email downloads and a better Web experience with Wi-Fi speeds.

 

Boingo Mobile is available for all Android smartphones, including models that run the latest version of the OS, Android 1.5. G1 from T-Mobile USA, the HTC Magic from Vodafone and the HTC Dream from Orange France are some of the Android smartphones available today.

 

The Wi-Fi experience of the Android smartphone is enhanced by the Boingo application which provides an automated way to connect. The application will notify users automatically when they are in a Boingo hotspot and connect to the network with one-click. The notification will work even when the application is not open. The Boingo application will appear in the notification bar when in a hotspot. Depending upon the phone settings, the application will either vibrate or play a sound.

 

Boingo has added one more platform to its growing list of supported mobile platforms and devices with the addition of the Android platform. The list of supported platforms and devices also includes Windows Mobile, Nokia/Symbian Series 60 and the Apple (News - Alert) iPhone and iPod Touch.

 

Boingo Mobile service provides unlimited Wi-Fi access in a number of hot spots for all enabled services on the installed device like VoIP, browsing, upload, download and other unlicensed mobile access services. Boingo users will be able to logon to the Boingo Network locations with a single account. The Boingo network locations include top airports around the world, major hotel chains, cafés and coffee shops, restaurants, and metropolitan hot zones.
