Alert) Systems Group, Inc., an integrated communications service provider in Alaska, has announced it installed a booster on the McNeil Canyon cell site in Homer, aimed at doubling the coverage area and to provide wildfire emergency responders with extended wireless coverage.
This emergency wireless coverage was initiated responding to wildfires burning in the Kenai Peninsula Borough in Alaska.
“The cell booster will give emergency responders enhanced coverage so that they can receive cell service at the perimeter of the fire,” said Ed Bryson, vice president of field operations at ACS (

ACS is providing the booster as a free public service and will leave it up as long as emergency responders need it.
“Until now, we had been relying on limited radio communication,” said Jordan Halden, Type One Incident Management Team, communications unit leader.
“The expanded coverage will help us respond faster and communicate more clearly. We appreciate the quick response and service from ACS.”
Headquartered in Anchorage, ACS provides broadband and other wireline and wireless solutions to Enterprise and mass market customers in Alaska. The ACS wireline operations include the state's advanced data networks and the only diverse undersea fiber optic system connecting Alaska to the contiguous United States.
The ACS wireless operations include the only statewide 3G CDMA network, reaching across Alaska from the North Slope to Ketchikan, with coverage extended via best-in-class CDMA carriers in the Lower 49 and Canada.
