Digi Announces New Wired and Wireless Embedded Core Module Family

By Anamika Singh, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Digi International (News - Alert), a provider of device networking, has introduced the ConnectCore 9M 2443 and ConnectCore Wi-9M 2443, the industry’s fastest ARM9-based, network enabled embedded core modules.

The ConnectCore 9M 2443 features the highest-performance ARM9 core processor module, is compact and has an extremely power-efficient design, as well as an extended and industrial operating temperature.

It supports Windows CE and Linux operating systems. Its pin-compatible wired and 802.11a/b/g core modules has state-of-the-art peripherals, rich development resources and speed that makes the products suited for display and embedded multimedia applications. This includes embedded applications in networked displays, medical devices, building access controls, energy management devices, time and attendance devices, scales and other devices with multimedia or display technology.

The network-enabled ConnectCore 9M 2443 also provides rich peripheral interface support for a wide variety of applications, including medical devices, transportation, security/access control, networked displays and more. The module utilizes a power-efficient ARM9 processor running at up to 533 MHz clock speed and offers a wide variety of on-board peripherals such as a TFT/CSTN LCD controller, camera interface, audio codec interfaces, hi-speed USB device, full-speed USB host, high-speed memory card support and external mass storage.

“The ConnectCore 9M 2443 series is 33 percent faster than any other ARM9-based core module available,” stated Larry Kraft, senior vice president of global sales and marketing, Digi International. “This level of speed can reduce development time by allowing engineers to reuse existing ARM9 code in wired and wireless applications that require high levels of speed and support.”

Based on the Samsung (News - Alert) S3C2443 ARM9 microprocessor, the ConnectCore 9M 2443 and ConnectCore Wi-9M 2443 have multilayered memory bus architecture for simultaneous data transfer between processor, memory and peripherals, eliminating the bus bandwidth bottlenecks common on other platforms.

The modules also have a set of peripheral and multimedia connectivity options including an integrated LCD controller, USB 2.0 support and support for SD Memory cards for embedded developers. In addition, the modules provide off-the-shelf hardware and software support for all power management modes, making it suitable for low power and battery powered/mobile applications.
