BT’s UK customers will now be able to benefit from the power of mobility when using VoIP
services thanks to the operator’s new offering - Windows Mobile 6-powered smartphones from HTC.
The new devices will receive support from BT’s WiFi
Fusion mobile service - a converged fixed-mobile phone service, as well as the home and office “hub” that allows customers to create their own wireless network. This will be the first devices of this kind that BT makes available for its customers. Up to this point, the operator had only offered non-mobile VoIP-enabled phones as part of its Fusion service.
“We are dedicated to providing our customers with a truly converged mobility experience. We are very excited about Windows Mobile 6 and the range of HTC devices as it will enable us to develop affordable converged services for customers over our wireless broadband and mobile networks. This is the beginning of an exciting journey for our customers as such services will allow people to stay on top of their jobs whilst away from the office,” commented BT’s Chief of Applications and Devices Jerry Thompson in a statement.
In order for BT’s customers to realize the full potential of these new applications and devices, the operator has also arranged to build the first phase of 12 “Wireless Cities” - a WiFi (

Alert) hotspot
project, which the company plans to complete by the end of March.
