HD Communications Corp. recently introduced its multi functional data port device at the current ITEXPO show happening at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami, Florida. The new device, HD27000, connects to in-wall Ethernet cabling, can be mounted in a standard wall opening, supports Wi-Fi, transfers data and allows connection and power to VoIP phones via its Power over Ethernet (PoE) feature.

The device is suitable for the hospitality industry, which includes hotels, motels, clubs, restaurants, casinos, and resorts and its multifunctional offerings also make it suitable for other enterprises.
“Businesses require good Wi-Fi, a wired Ethernet connection, and the ability to plug in a VoIP phone as well as power it.,” said Don Davis, President and CEO, HD Communications.
The offering serves as Access Point (News - Alert) (AP), which is an IEEE 802.11 b/g compliant, and supports 4 Service Set Identifiers (SSID’s).  It also works on the 2.4 Giga Hertz (GHz) frequency band and has a throughput of 19 (Mbit/s). Since microwave ovens, Bluetooth devices, baby monitors and cordless telephones operate on the same 2.4 GHz band, they cause interference. Care must be taken to physically locate the HD27000 at least 4 meters away, in any direction, from such devices.
Also, the devices RJ45 – an international standard data and direct current (DC) connector for 8 positions 8 contacts (8P8C) - front facing port serves several functions and it is PoE IEEE (News - Alert) 802.3af compliant. PoE is a system which transfers both electrical 48 Volts (V) DC power and data.
The HD 27000 is designed to slot into a standard single gang electrical box socket. The installation is a fairly simple process. Connect the in-wall Category 5e (Cat 5e) cable jack to the socket available at the rear end (the end that eventually goes inside the wall) of the HD27000. Adjust the faceplate to suit the depth of the wall recess. Once all three front facing LED’s light up, push the device into the wall socket for a snap fit. Connect to a computer to configure.
A VoIP phone can also be connected to the RJ45 socket for conversations and to obtain power. This port can also be used in the conventional wired way to transfer data by connecting with a computer or a laptop.
