Arizona Public Service (APS) has selected
KORE Telematics to provide wireless communications services as part of the large scale expansion of the utility’s automated metering infrastructure (AMI).
While disclosing this KORE Telematics officials said that APS has contracted with
Elster Integrated Solutions for 800,000 new meters, all of which rely on the KORE M2M network for two-way cellular data communications.
Officials said that KORE has been providing wireless services to APS since 2005, when the utility began its initial AMI deployment of more than 160,000 meters. The new 800,000 meter expansion began in December 2008.
“APS is leading the way toward a utilities infrastructure that is fully automated, to achieve the vision of utilities and consumers collaborating to conserve energy,” said Alex Brisbourne, president and COO, KORE Telematics, in a statement.
“Not only are utilities now able to adjust power consumption across millions of homes and businesses, but in the near future the AMI will allow consumers to control their own home’s environment remotely.”
The company officials claimed that KORE provides the industry’s first and most comprehensive “pay-for-use” network services model.
Officials said that KORE charges for only the data services consumed – based on bandwidth as opposed to per connection pricing – to drive costs out of the overall spend. This is especially important in the utility industry where many devices each transmit a very small amount of data, officials said.
KORE Telematics is a fully digital wireless network provider focused exclusively on the rapidly-expanding machine-to-machine (M2M) communications market. Companies in fields as diverse as security, utilities, health care and fleet management, as well as government agencies, are implementing M2M solutions to achieve productivity gains, cost management, environmental improvement and to expand customer services.
Through its extensive network of application and hardware partners, KORE enables complete solutions for vehicle tracking, homeland security, automated metering and dozens of other M2M applications.
With the KORE network, Tracking Solutions Online can provide customers with cost effective, flexible wireless network connectivity that enables them to more intelligently manage their vehicle fleets.
